Ashurst Canberra’s new office fitout sets a benchmark. Located in Canberra’s CQ1 building, the 1080sqm fitout was designed to accommodate an agile and hybrid working model. The Ashurst Partners, via workshops and detailed consultation with the design team, created a workplace with increased flexibility that provides different ways of working and supports increased collaboration for all people.

Unlike traditional legal workplace models, there are no dedicated offices. The workspace is shared and all work settings provide a variety of spaces customized to suit specific tasks. There are areas for quiet work, team discussion and video conferencing. People are encouraged to work with others and work to their own style. All meeting spaces are fully equipped with video conferencing facilities and supported by exemplary acoustic properties. Enclosed quiet spaces offer individual workspace or space for 2 people to work side by side.

Ashurst has adopted a 70:30 ratio of workspaces to people, as people are given the flexibility to blend their working week between home and the office.

The overarching design pallet is neutral, contemporary and calm. Highlights of sage green tones and strong limestone elements bring a connection to the Canberra landscape and the limestone plains it is built on. The fitout is framed by floor to ceiling glass façades, which offer uninterrupted views of Parliament House and Lake Burley Griffin.

From a technical perspective, SCEC facilities were constructed to hold sensitive material and a hi-end IT facility built on site.
